Mercedes-Benz G Wagon Additional Information

Registered in August 1988, this series 460 'Geländewagen' has only 115k miles with excellent service history. Finished in Astral silver metallic paint (code 9735) with grey check cloth trim, this example has undergone an extensive restoration during 2015 & provides a great reminder as to how these cars have gained their reputation and following. The development of the G-Class started in 1972 with a cooperative agreement between Steyr-Daimler-Puch in Graz Austria, & Daimler-Benz. The team in Graz developed the production plans whilst Mercedes-Benz engineers in Stuttgart were in charge of design and testing. The G-class was also developed as a military vehicle from a suggestion by the Shah of Iran (at the time a significant Mercedes shareholder) and was offered as a civilian version in 1979. The original 460-series Geländewagen went on sale in 1979 & was offered with two wheelbases, a short wheelbase (SWB) of 2,400 mm and a long wheelbase (LWB) of 2,850 mm. Three body styles were offered, a two-door SWB convertible, a two-door SWB wagon and a LWB four-door wagon. The two wagon versions were also available as windowless two-door Vans (or Kastenwagen). Being assembled in Graz, the car was sold as the Puch G only in the Austrian, Swiss, & Eastern European markets. This car we offer here has a large additional history file with service receipts obtained over the years, plus a substantial digital record of its restoration carried out by the leading model specialist in the UK. With a desirable options list including electric windows x4, power steering, longitudinal seat bench left/right with double occupancy (9 seats), upgraded interior trim, headlight guards, central locking, ball type trailer hitch with 7 pin socket, headlight wash/wipe, 15” wider alloy wheels & enlarged fenders. This G-Wagen represents a very rare opportunity to own an unmolested OEM restored example that will provide solid investment and ownership.
