BMW M5 Additional Information
This BMW M5 E39 ‘Exclusive’ was registered in April 2002. Finished in Avus Blue metallic paintwork with contrasting ‘Heritage’ cream nappa leather interior, it is complemented with walnut wood centre console & door cappings. The car has covered 98k miles by its three previous owners & has a full BMW main dealer service history. The M5 E39 series was manufactured from 1998 through to 2003. Under the bonnet one will find the V8 BMW M engine of 4998cc that develops 394bhp, the power being delivered through a 6 speed manual Getrag gearbox to the rear wheels. Originally introduced at the Geneva Motorshow in 1998, E39 development was triggered by the introduction of the Mercedes E50 & E55 model ranges, and development of the new V8 supercharged engine offered later on the Jaguar XJR saloon. For the first time, this generation was not hand assembled and the inline six of the E34 series was replaced by a double-vanos system V8 engine. Due to the continual improvements BMW made, as well as a few niceties added for the 2001 model year, the last three years of production are more desirable than the first model year of 2000, which was the best-seller. The mid-cycle refresh to the 5 Series for 2001 added angel-eye headlights, updated tail lights, a thicker three-spoke M steering wheel, a grey instrument cluster, and an improved navigation and media system. It also became the last of the manual shift M5 models to be produced. Two levels of equipment were available – Sportive and Exclusive. This example is one of the Exclusive models with the very desirable option of the ‘Individual’ trim level, making the interior a very special place to be. This late example of the E39 M5 is presented in superb condition throughout, & has been cherished by its most recent owner for the past 15 years as part of his garaged coveted collection of cars. With low ownership, high specification and the aforementioned full BMW service history, this M5 E39 is a rare example indeed.
