The 993 replaced the 964 version of 911, introducing many safety and performance improvements, one of which was the Varioram system providing a power increase of 15%, most noticeable when driving in the mid-range of its power delivery. The Carrera 2S wide body cars were introduced in 1997 and ceased in 1998, sharing the Turbo model's bodyshell, but supplied with the non turbo engine.
